Todays wonderful activities included tasting coffee for five hours, eating dinner at Harrys [I had the Omaha medium rare, with salad [ranch] and mashed potatoes instead of fries.] Later I did math HW [quadratics] and terraced some more land and planted some ferns. I also played some video games and listened to music..just a basic relaxing day. PLenty of time to slow down and barbeque some Hebrew Nationals and watch the sun go down across the lake. Dad and I had a debate on why there is such a big descrepency in lake levels. Here is how it went.
Dad: My hypothesis is that we are at sea level and the lake is directly affected by the tides.
Me: Dad, didnt u say we have 3 pumps in this lake?
Dad: Why yes, they have been there a long time and fill the lake up when it loses water.
Me: Dad I think that long term use of the aquifer in such a way, so close to the sea, would cause a change in the pressure balance and make some of the sea water come into the well, by which this lake is filled up.
Dad: No, son, the strata in the rock is obviously permeable and the sea water table obviously leaks into the cement boundaries of the lake, being artificial.
Me: Dad, if you had a pump up on the Mesa down to the pure aquifer and drained that aquifer enough, the sea water would come in and you would have sea level changes in your bird bath.
Dad: No, son.
Me: And what about evaporation? You arent considering that. And what about the Clubhouse pool?
Dad: The clubhouse pool is separate from the lake, but is still affected by the tides.
Me: Dad, the clubhouse pool is right next to the lake. If it is influenced by outside tables, it is obviously influenced by the lake.
Dad: No, they are separated by the concrete.
Me: So the tide is going to get all the way over here, through the lake, and through the pool. But its going to infiltrate each one separatley.
Dad: Yes.
Me: Dad, I think the tides dont come in this far, which is why we had to build a well instead of just a desalinizer. And I think if the water can get into the lake, it could get into the pool, and that if it had a choice, it would take the easier route to the lake and not even bother with the pool individually, being so far up when it can just do the lake and the lake will do the pool by proximity.
Dad: No that doesnt work.
Me: How about you take a barometer measurement here and at sea level and ill prove to you we arent at sea level. Or how about you test the pool for sea water elements but also for lake only elements.
Dad: No, GPS has elevation on it.
Me: (walks away)
